I am regrularly getting mail stuck in my outbox but it does seem to be
sending!?
It stays in out box and doesnt move to sent box.
Some email does send and move to sent.

If you are running a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook disable this
integration and try again.

Thanks tried that last night and it happened again this morning with the
local machine's AVG virus checker turned off.
We are using 5 machines linked to a server using Microsoft Exchange Server.

Disabling your virus scanner isn't the same as disabling its integration
with Outlook. Check the documentation of your virus scanner on how to do
that properly.

If the mail does get send but the folders aren't updating unless you click
on the folder this might be an issue with your virus scanner blocking UDP
packets for Outlook.

I am having similar problem on two different computers. I send an email and
it does not leave outbox. If I send more mail it is stuck behind the first
one. If I quit outlook and restart, sometimes the mail will go. I do not open
the out box to see what is in it, I look at the number of items listed to be
sent in outbox (bold number folder view). Sometimes I have to delete the
message and start over, sometimes mail includes an attachment. If it was the
virus program, I would expect every message that is similarly formatted to be
"attacked" the same way. This is not the case. It occurs on random messages,
either new messages I have just created or one that I am replying to. It
happened yesterday when sending 3 excel attachements (one at a time not 3 at
once) one stayed in out box other two sent and received no problem. I
attemtped to attach the file in a reply rather than as the new mail (after
deleting the stuck message) rebooting the machine, and restarting outlook.
The email with 16kb .xls attachment would not leave outbox. I renamed file
(no extension) again clearing stuck message and restarting outlook and
finally message sent. Please advise, thank you.

I have the same problem and looking on the Internet, we are not alone
with no answers I could find. Using 2007 and the message gets sent,
stays there and it sends the message, hangs in there, but I get no
error message from Outlook. It stays there and will send again, and
again... I have no virus protection installed although I do have
Vista, which could qualify as a virus IMHO.

My mail also gets stuck in the outbox, and everytime I go onto Outlook, it
sends the mail - the recipients get about 40 emails from me. Can this be a
virus?

No, but it could be your antivirus scanner. Always disable scanning mail
with the AV program. It's unnecessary and can cause the symtom you see.
