Mail Flow Problem

We are experiencing a major mail flow problem and just
can't figure out what is causing it. I have tried several
suggested fixes but still the same. Users now have to hit
the F5 or Send/Receive for new mail. They will not get
new mail automatically if they fail to do so.

This problem is new and occurred only after we applied
the vulnerability updates from MS onto the server a few
months ago.

We are running exchange 5.5 SP4 on an NT4 SP6a.

Another problem we are experiencing (in outlook xp & 2003)
is that the client-side rules only work when you restart
outlook or 10mins after it arrived in Inbox. This also
occurs on machines with just a single rule.

Can anyone help?

You are experiencing what we call the "New Mail Notification" issue.
Outlook is failing to receive a UDP packet from the server telling it that
there is new mail. This issue is caused by network hardware normally.
Ensure that no routers, or firewalls are set to block UDP packets.

You can also enable the clients to "poll" the Exchange Server periodically
for new mail.
