have XP Pro & IE6 on 2 separate pc's.
all sounds are off in the Sounds control panel. "Play
sounds in Web pages" is unchecked in the
IE>Tools>advanced utility.

still i have to endure this ridiculous "bloop" sound as
pages load in IE. could be cookies, but i am unsure. how can i disable this annoying, cheap
sound? this is driving me crazy

this problem began only after the latest "critical"
updates for xp were downloaded and installed

again, this is driving me crazy

thanks very much in advance
angel

thank you for your response. i have done that. i thought i made that clear in my post. there are no sounds allowed for any event in my system or browser

still, this problem persists.

Wasn't sure you got that far down the list..

If you disabled Script debugging, you might want to refresh your scripting
engine:

or

Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP

Sometimes there's a corrupt file in the cache and one must go to Tools |
Internet Options and click Delete Files.

thank you for your response. i have removed all cache files on both machines.

i have no idea what to do with the Windows script thing.

also, again--i have the identical problem on 2 machines, not just one. so an errant corrupt file would be unlikely

please advise

i have a resolution to this issue, finally. i thought i
should post the solution as it may arise with others.

it seems that the latest XP "critical" update disrupted
the ability of some apps and utilities to mute their own
sounds. in my case it was "Cookie Patrol", a component
of "Pest Patrol" which is a commercial adware, spyware,
scumware stalker and remover.

this app, along with regular AV apps, was the only common
software among the 2 machines with the latest xp updates,
aside from the OS itself.

i have updated the app and all's well--and all's quiet.

MS tech support helped me track it down with a process of
illimination with msconfig before i was driven entirely
psychotic.

thank you, Frank, for your efforts,
angela
