Macros doesn't saves

R

Ravi

Hello & Greetings..

I am using MS Office 2003 (SP3).

Whenever I record any NEW Macros it automatically deleted whenever I restart
my Computer.

Same thing, whenever I add any Word / Auto Text in AutoCorrect Option, it
automatically deleted whenever I restart my Computer.

Any solution ?

Please help me out.

Regards,
Ravi

Hi Ravi,

Both macros and AutoText are saved in the Normal.dot template unless you
specify some other place when you're creating them. That implies that for
some reason, the Normal.dot template is not being saved when you close Word.

The first thing to try is to go to Tools > Options > Save and check the box
for "Prompt to save Normal template". Then create a macro or AutoText entry,
and close Word to see whether it prompts you to save the change. It should
do that, so there's a problem if there is no prompt.

If there is a prompt to save the Normal template, answer yes. Then open the
My Computer program, paste this in the address box at the top:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates

and press Enter. Look in the list of files for the Normal.dot file. If the
date and time list for "Date Modified" are not the time when you answered
the prompt, then the file isn't being saved properly. That might be due to a
permission problem in the folder -- in the folder's Properties dialog, on
the Security tab, you should have Full Control checked.

If the date/time is correct, restart the computer and then look at the
file's date/time again. If you're on a network, it's possible that the
network administrator is forcing the Normal.dot template to be replaced
during login. That should not be done.

To follow up on Jay's run-down: If it does turn out that your Normal
template is being replaced at startup, then you may be able to create
another global template, in which you save your customizations (including
macros and AutoText entries) and save it in Word's Startup folder. It will
be loaded, along with the generic Normal.dot, every time you start Word and
will give you access to the macros and AutoText entries in any document.
