macromedia flash

Hi-I'm completely in the dark. Sbc DSL says I need Flash 5 to view one of
their tutorials. Have tried to download every Macromedia product, it seems,
& when I'm at the download site for a free program I hit the key & nothing
happens. Just the blank box with the 'ol red X. Mac. says I may not have
all that I need through my internet set-up to view some of their advice.
It's an SBC tutorial, & it's not complete? I don't get it.
I've tried disabling Norton, all spyware & adware, used Sbc & IE to
download & nothing. Macromedia's help section is too involved. I was able
to download Shockwave.
Is Flash that important anyway? I'm not even sure what it is.
If I were you I'd ignore this post. I have an HP Pavilion, XP PRO,
most all bells & whistles. Thanks-alan

Flash player is a plugin to display a widely-used format for animated or
interactive content on the net. Many pages use flash extensively.

I flash has been installed, but IE still doesn't know how to access a flash
file, try this: From the command line or run line type:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll <enter>

click ok on the following dialogue box if it says it succeeded.

and reload the page

You may need to adjust the Privacy settings in your firewall for the
macromedia website to allow mobile code, activex, or mime content.
