Macromedia/Adobe Flash 9 will not work

I have been trying to download Macromedia/Adobe Flash 9 for months now and
can not get it to work. I have gone to the web page and tried and when I try
to view a video that requires it. The popup window appears and I click
install and the window goes away and that is it. I try to view the video and
it says I have to install it. I tried the help section of Mac/adobe and
nothing it had me do worked. The Flash9.ocx file is in the Macromedia
directory. Have been searching the web for a solution and nothing I have
tried or looked for has worked. I have used regedit to look for a particular
file but it was not there. Active X is allowed and nothing is blocking
downloads from Macromedia. There are other things that I have tried but at
this point I have lost track/memory of what they were. Has anyone any ideas ?
I will try any idea. Thinking back on this it seems to coincide with the
loading of SP2 but maybe that is just a fluke. Anyway any help would be much
appreciated. Thanks.

Control panel/Internet options - programs - manage add on's
See if you can do anything with that.

I use Opera and it has a plug in directory, I can (just did) take all
those plug ins and copy them to the FireFox plug in directory, FireFox
then uses them.

I can't do that with IE, I take it that;s what your using, try another
browser. And don't run ActiveX your just asking for problems.

Also you have Java installed right.

Thank you for your reply. I was using IE and have tried Mozilla and Netscape
with the same result. I downloaded Opera and had the same results. It seems
be something in the registry or the like but I do not have the expertise to
figure out what it may be. I noticed that when I go into add/remove programs
I see Macromedia 8 but never 9 even after it says it is downloaded like
Mozilla stated. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Oh and yes Java has
been installed from day one. Thanks in advance.

I don't know, you can try to and copy all my plugins from Opera into
your plugin directories or see if they are the same.
