Macro security setting not stored

G

Gary Schneider

Hi,

my macro security setting is LOW by default. Whenever I try to change
it, the new setting seems not to be stored, because afterwards it's LOW
again.
I'm running Excel 2003 SP2, but the same problem occurs in Word 2003
SP2.

On my private computer at home everythings works well. Any idea why
it's not working here in the office?

TIA
Gary

This is one of those settings that is stored in the windows registry. I'm
guessing that your IT folks have set you up so that you can't save changes to
the registry.

I'd talk to your IT help desk and ask.

As a personal note, I always kept the security level at work to low. But I only
used workbooks that were created by me or my coworkers (plus a few utilities
that I could trust)--never anything from an unknown source.

At home, I keep my security level set to medium. If I grab something from the
internet, I want to disable macros so that I can look at them before I trust
that workbook.

Dave, thx for your advice. I agree in the way how you handle security
levels. That way I'm doing it too.

Meanwhile I know the reason why the security levels are not stored on
my office computer. It simply has been disabled by the company.
Internal regulations require the security level to be low. Life's a bit
simple sometimes ;-)
