Machine check while reading and writing DVD

Hi

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 installed on a emachines T2865,
which has a NEC ND-1300A DVD drive. I've been using this system for only
two days, so am still trying new things. Today, I started using Dantz
Retrospect Professional v6.5 to backup several systems to DVD-R media in the
NEC drive. After watching this backup run successfully for over 3 hours, I
left the system and did other things. When I returned, the system was
powered off. I booted the system, and ran a Retrospect job to read the
media; again I left, and again I returned some time later to find the system
powered off.

In the system log event viewer, I find this events, which (from the log file
times) are apparently written when I boot the system:

What's happening? Do I have some kind of corruption? Is the system
'blue-screening'?

Guidance, please!

Thanks

And another thing: I've noticed over a hundred of these events today:

What would a CDROM device be involved in a paging operation? I hope the
system isn't trying to use a CDROM as a paging device, even though it is
writeable!

Thanks
