M-word will not save changes - I get 'error' report every time?

I have a large m-word document which I am preparing to convert into pdf. (A
Book). I am trying to make some last-minute changes to the text and
formatting, but as soon as I try to save my changes, I get the 'error'
message, and nothing gets saved...?

What do I do? What's the problem ...the solution? Thanks.

What exactly does the error message say?

Thanks for the response Graham.

I can't retrieve the 'error' box any more, so I can't tell you exactly what
it said, but as I recall, it said something like "Microsoft Word has
encountered a problem and needs to shut down" - and then I get asked to send
an 'error report'.

However, I found a solution (just by chance). The M-word document I was
trying to save was at 200% resolution (because I was working on some images
etc). I 'copied' the whole document and opened it up in a new M-word document
and reduced it to 100%, and was able to save it from there. Then I deleted
the original offending file..

Hope this can help anyone else with the same problem.

Kind regards

If it was just the one document, it was probably corrupt. Copying all but
the last paragraph mark into a new document is the most obvious way to have
corrected the corruption.
