LuCallbackProxy.exe

For the last three weeks or so, i have noticed a serious degradation of the
speed of my machine. I have a lattitude x1 with xp and sp2 and am running
outlook as my e mail. On Start up, if i look at the task manager
(Cntr+alt+del) i can monitor cpu usage. and it runs near 100% for a while
the process i see is LuCallbackProxy.exe using about 500k of memory and
there are two or three of them, then they go away. I have tried to delete
the process, but i can't get access. I have searced the drive for the file
and can't find it. I run norton 360 as my security and have run the virus
scan several times, no joy. Any Ideas about how i got into this mess and how
to get out of it??

There's the problem.

You got Norton.
and how to get out of it??

Uninstall Norton.

But seriously folks, ...

lucallback is Norton's update process.
Near as I can figure, it runs at startup and approximately
every two hours thereafter. If you are so unlucky that
something actually needs updating, then appsvc32 runs
after the update. If you think lucallback takes cpu cycles ...

Does anyone know of a way to change the frequency that
lucallback runs? I'd like to change it from 2 hrs to 6.

thank you... is it possible to just run it when i want to do updates say once
a week??

NAV and other Symantec products traditionally have a way in the interface to
allow user modification of how often, and if at all, if liveupdate will run.
You can also run liveupdate manually, whether liveupdate is set to run
automatically is immaterial.

These issues with Norton are best asked of Symantec tech support. IMO, you
are better off without it. There are better programs for the job, that are
much less resource intensive. Some are even free.
