I am unable to completely boot into one of my users machines. When it first
comes up there's a message "No 80 conductor cable installed", but proceeded
to the XP splash screen. After 30 minutes of that and still not fully
booted, I then turned the machine off and replaced the cable to the hard
drive.

Then another attempt to reboot, that message went away. Again the splash
screen for EVER!!! I went to tend to another users need, when I came back
there's an error : lsass.exe the procedure entry point_resetstkoflw could
not be located in the dynamic link library msvert.dll. I click OK then get a
blank screen.

At this point I'm figuring the next move is the recovery console, but I'm
not sure what to copy from the CD. Can someone help me out?

Hi Penny, Follow the light <= Over the Hedge <g>
= About the first Error message, you really need to go out and get a Data
(Ribbon) cable ATA66/100 IDE 80 wires instead of the ATA33 IDE 40 wire,
this will make you able to transfer data at a faster rates and make the
Operating system faster to read the data at boot up.
ATA66 = 80 Wires
ATA33 = 40 wires

= To your second error, If my search was right you typed the Dll in a panic
mode and it is msvcrt.dll not msvert.dll, somehow this file is corrupted or
over written by another third-party installed on your system.
Have a read through these links and apply the Fix:
Error Message: Procedure Entry Point Not Found in Msvcrt.dll File

Error message: Msvcirt.dll file is linked to missing export msvcrt.dll

I'm in the recovery console right now and am trying to rename the msvcrt.dll
and it keeps telling me that the name specified is not a directory. It won't
let me delete it either.

Is this just something stupid I'm doing on my part?

It wouldn't let me rename the msvcrt.dll it keeps telling me that "The name
specified is not a directory".

I tried going ahead and expanding the msvcrt.dl_ and it wouldn't create the
file.

This seems hopeless. I don't understand why it won't let me rename that
file. I was also unable to delete it.

Now what?

Hi penny,
Did you tried to change the Directory per the article, it depend on where is
the file.
Try to run the chkdsk /r on the Recovery console.
Also try to copy the File to the C:\Windows\system32.
Are you able to log on and perform the Check Disk and you can search for the
file there and see the directory, it may be in a different directory than the
\System32 like the Cabs: C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS
