I got a system process running sometimes thats called lsass.exe (german win
xp). The problem is that this process takes up to 98!!! % of my system
ressources (2.8 ghz, 512 pc400, 2x 80 gig sata as raid zero).

I searched the process in the process list an found out that it saves
security settings (sry dunno the right term in english).

what should I do to stop it? I think this is the reason for my pc being
extremely slow even while opening some windows... sometimes I even have to
shut it down via task manager... .
Thats no fun

Thanks in advance.

Though it is a system process of the Microsoft Windows security
mechanisms.But lsass.exe also relates to the Windang.worm, irc.ratsou.b,
Webus.B, MyDoom.L, Randex.AR, Nimos.worm.
So I shall suggest you to scan your system with latest virus
definitioned antivirus first.

Are you sure (and I mean SURE) there your machine is clean of malware?
Make sure your AV is bang up to date and run it, also antispyware like
spybot and AdAware. Do you also use a firewall.

The reason I ask is that I did a google search for your problem and it
turned up this item

Thanks but I´ve already done it more than once (with kaspersky av, the, like
i think, best free av scanner)
nothing....
Before you ask : I got the latest virus updates and they are very fast there
at kaspersky labs.

....

i used: spybot, norton antivirus, kaspersky antivirus, adaware (2 versions)
and another wich name was..... I dunno. is that enough ;-) oh as i read it
it WAS SpyBot Search and Destroy ( i know some people who work for computer
companys... I asked them and they told me to use this progs)

May be you need a fresh copy of it.Use Recovery Console and the expand a
copy of lsass.exe from the I386 directory on the disk to
the \Windows\System32 folder from the command prompt.

C:\>Expand X:\I386\lsass.ex_ C:\Windows\system32

HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console in Windows XP [Q307654]
