lsass.exe System Error

Ok so this morning I turn my computer on get "lsass.exe
System Error - An invalid HANDLE was specified" From
there I can press "OK" which reboots my system and the
process continues ad infinitum.

When I last my use computer, it was only for checking
email and reading a few web pages, so I didnt' do
anything to the system.

I've been searching all morning and I've yet to see
anybody with this specific error message, but the other
lsass.exe errors seem to point to reinstalling. I'd like
to avoid that if at possible because there is a lot of
information on my machine that I haven't gotten around to
backing up.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you will probably have to format the drive and reinstall
Windows. However, you can try a Repair Install first. Here are
instructions:

Backups are a Good Thing. If you need to do a clean install, take the
hard drive out, slave it in a working machine, copy the data over, burn
it on a cd-r. Then put the original drive back (make sure to change the
jumpers back), format, clean install Windows, reinstall programs from
cd's, restore data from the cd-r you made.

Boot to safe mode and try a cleanboot or uninstall PC Anywhere or any remote
control software.

We want to implement the Cleanboot process using MSCONFIG to rule out 3rd
party software as the cause of this issue. MSCONFIG from XP can also be used
on a Windows 2000 Pro or Server client.

Go to Start\Run type in Msconfig and press OK.
Go to the Startup tab.
Click on "Disable All"
Go to the Services Tab
Click on "Hide all Microsoft Services"
Uncheck the 3rd party services that are left
Press OK twice to reboot.

Once your computer is restarted see if the issue still occurs. if it still
does go to Msconfig and select Enable All on the startup tab.
If the issue does not occur go to the Startup tab and select items 4 at a
time or so with reboots in between to narrow down the exact item causing
your problem.
