lsass.exe - System error

My son's computer is showing the following error message as it attempts to
reboot.

lsass.exe - system error
the end point format is invalid

If I click OK the computer tries to reboot only to get the same error
message. I tried booting with the windows CD but it doesn't do anything
different. I tried to start in safe mode but I get the same message.

What can I do? How do I reload windows if it won't read the cd?

It would be my guess that you will have to press F8 and run from the CD.

Actually, if your son's computer has a virus, you should probably try to run
Bart's PE Builder on it first. Download Bart's PE Builder (just google
that), and intall that to a CD along with an updated virus scanner. Then
attempt to start his computer from the CD (Bart's PE), and run the virus
scanner.

Hopefully that will work!

Thanks, I'll try to run Bart's PE Builder. But I can't get past this message
to run anything! I have pressed F8, but there is no selection to run from
the CD? All selctions end back with a black screen and the message!!

Have you gone into the bios to change the boot order and make the CD or DVD
drive the first boot drive?

I've got a laptop with the same type of issue. lsass.exe craps out (An
invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.) and forces a reboot
once acknowledged. The laptop is currently stuck in a "Windows Repair" and
will not complete once the error pops-up. If I don't click OK, I can press
"Shift-F10" and bring up a command prompt window. From here, I can check my
virus definition file (McAfee June 2, 2006) and run a full virus scan
(nothing found), or do anything else like regedit. I'm justing looking for
what to do to correct this error. Renaming lsass.exe so it doesn't run made
matters worse. Luckily I got my hands on a USB to 2.5 ATA-6 HDD adapter and
put the file back. Still looking for what to run, rename, delete, etc. to
get past this. In searching the web, it looks like a lot of folks have come
up against this. You would think Microsoft would have something posted on
how to resolve these lsass.exe issues...

Wait a minute... you are talking about Microsoft... the same company that
has changed how Flash runs in their popular IE browser?

I don't think this really needs an explanation... =p
