lsass.exe high CPU and windows update

For the last couple of weeks, when I login to my XP desktop, the
lsass.exe process is near 100% CPU utilization for over 10 minutes. I
notice that the Windows Update system tray icon appears but nothing
downloads. I have McAfee installed and realize that this could be a
virus but is not. I recently installed Windows Defender Beta 2 on my
machine. What is causing the lsass.exe process to take up 100% of my
CPU for 10 minutes each and every time I logon? Is it Windows
Defender? Is it Genuine Advantage? I'd like to fix this as it is
extremely inconvenient to wait over 10 minutes every time I logon.
Appreciate any help you may have.

How can you tell what software is using the lsass.exe process?
Everytime I boot, both lsass.exe and mcafee.exe take up 100% of my CPU
for 11 minutes. After 11 minutes, the lsass.exe process CPU % goes to
0 and I can resume normal computing. I really believe that Windows
Update and Genuine Advantage have something to do with this. I've
scanned my computer with McAfee and Defender and have no viruses on my
PC. This is really annoying to have to wait 11 minutes each and
everytime after logon to use the PC. I logged in to my PC under a
different account with admin privs and do not have this same problem.
Any advice would be appreciated!
