lsass.exe - system error

laptop boots windows xp then registers the "lsass.exe -
system error: then reboots. have been unsucessful in
all known f8 commands. will not boot into safe mode.
any recommendations ?

Try a Repair Install:

A Repair Install will save your programs, settings and data files, but will
change Windows XP system files and the registry. For a step by step walk
through of a Repair Install:

When the page opens, scroll down and click on: How To Run A Repair
Install.

If you can't get into Safe Mode or boot to Last Known Good
Configuration, then start by doing a Repair Install. If the Repair
Install doesn't work, then you'll need to do a clean install
(formatting the drive first) and then reinstall programs and restore
data from backups.
