lsass.exe - invalid parameter error

computer crashed had to replace motherboard and ram but had this error at blue windows loading/welcome screen before final crash "lsass.exe error - invalid parameter was passed to a service or function". i know nowthis may be sasser or blaster related and in the past i did have some unexplained reboots.

have not been able to try recovery console or repair option because computer did not come with a xp home cd just a recovery cd to put back to factory specs. in the process of trying to borrow home cd

any suggestions on how to recover without losing all would be greatly appreciated?

If your computer has two cd/cd-rw drives, you can boot with Knoppix, a
Linux distro that runs from cd. You can then burn all your important
data to cd-r's with k3b. Or you can pull the hard drive and slave it in
another machine with a working XP installation and pull off the data
that way. Then put the drive back in your machine and clean install
(format first) Windows.

Thanks Malke
I may have to resort to that. Here is some additional updating info if you don't mind looking. Thanks

here is a little update, maybe somone can guide me on what to try next
found my restoration CD that came with the computer and was able to boot to it. still having problems getting past password to recovery console. was able to get in twice, more later on that. when i booted to the CD i chose the repair option and system tried to repair and when setup screen came up showing installing xp and 39 minutes left i got the same "lsass.exe - invalid parameter" error window and even though the green progess bar kept moving, the install stayed at 39 minutes. when i click ok on the error window, it closes and reboots to this vicious circle i am in

as i said, a couple of times the recovery console didn't ask me for a password and let me in. i ran chkdsk /f and it found one or more errors and fixed them. when i rebooted, same isass.exe error

got into recovery console one more time and ran fixboot and fixmbr that someone suggested. when i rebooted, same isass.exe error

is there anyway to keep this window from poping up? it seems to halt everything when it does pop up. any help would be appreciated.

No. Back up your data and - based on this new information - run a
diagnostic utility on your hard drive. Download the utility from the
drive mftr.'s website. It will be bootable. Do the full diagnostic to
make sure the hard drive is good. If the diagnostic shows any errors,
replace the hard drive. If this is the case, you should check with your
computer mftr. how to use their Restore Disk with a blank hard drive.
