Lsass Constant Disk I/O

Rich

I am running Windows XP Pro sp2 with all the latest patches. I'm not
sure when it started - but I have recently noticed in Task Manager that
the lsass.exe process is constantly doing disk I/O - in excess of a
million reads and writes/day.

I have tried shutting down absolutely everything in the machine and
turning off permission for remote access. Nothing I do seems to make
any difference. I run behind a firewall and have the latest anti-virus
and anti spyware software - all of which says the machine is free from
any viruses/spyware. Latest (10/14/04) Stinger finds nothing.

I see other people have reported this but I can't find a solution
anywhere. Any idea how to identify the source of this problem?

Hi all,
I'm seeing the same behaviour on my recently installed computer (Windows XP
-SP2).
I will apreciate any advice. There is a lot of disk I/O activity, afecting
responsiveness.
Handle utility shows:
lsass.exe pid: 576 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
c: File C:\WINDOWS\system32
84: File
C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.2180_x-ww_a84f1ff9
15c: Section \BaseNamedObjects\Debug.Memory.240
24c: File C:\WINDOWS\Debug\PASSWD.LOG

Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.
