LPT scanner does not work on Windows Vista 32-bit

After upgrading to Windows Vista (32-bit) my scanner Mustek ScanMagic 9636 P
(connected to LPT port in computer) stopped working. When I try to scan
something, I get message: "The scanner is not connected. Please check the
cable". Before upgrading (on Windows XP 32-bit) it was working fine. I guess
that one of the security systems in Windows Vista blocks or limits access to
the LPT port for the scanner driver. Is it possible to change settings of
that security system (or in another way make the scanner work)?

Before upgrading I have ran Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and it has not
said that my scaner is not compatibile.

I want to add, that printer connected throughout the scanner works great
(scanner has two LPT sockets - first for computer and second for a printer
and printer is connected through this scanner). Of course I have tried to
disconnect and uninstall printer and printer driver before installing scanner
driver, but it has not helped.

I Googled around for drivers for this scanner and find that 1) it is a
very old scanner; 2) I don't see Vista drivers for it anywhere. This
means that without drivers for the Vista operating system, your scanner
will not work. Here's a link to a drivers download page for Mustek; you
can see if your particular model is included:

Unfortunately, there is no driver for Windows Vista neither on the page you
provided nor on Mustek site for my country. But it is not very old scanner,
it is only nine years old (bought in 1998). Printer is two years older
(bought in 1996) and works fine with driver for Windows XP on Windows Vista.

If you were to purchase a new scanner, you would realize how slow and
archaic your present scanner is. I appreciate that your scanner may not have
been used that much, but it is physical age that determines old, not usage.

Yes, I know it is slow, but I do not scan large quantities of documents so it
is very good for me. I am not going to buy new while present is good.
