any help appreciated.

A few things come to mind--
1. Bios settings may need to be changed .
2. The hardware port is not initializing on boot, but after delay will
initialize.
3. Obviously, there may be something going on during the windows boot
process that is causing the problem.

I'd also look in device manager using safe mode, and see if there are
undesired entries that might be related to your problem.
Is the LPT port a local parallel port, usb port, or virtual on your P/C?

Hi Chuck

1. Bios setting is default. Same settings work for other PC.

The LPT port is a physical port on the PC.

This happens ironically after we did a system restore from the recovery CD.

tks
