lower dvi refresh rate?

I have an apple cinema display 23, which nicely comes up at 1920x1200
(yes, in windows XP, using a Dr. Bott's adapter), using an ati radeon
card. alas, it jitter a little. I would guess that this is because
it is pushing the cable and converter to its limit. I need a
relatively long cable run, unfortunately, too.

I would love to try out a lower refresh rate (no games here!), but xp
seems to not like to allow me to lower below 60Hz. (of course, on an
LCD screen, this will not cause flicker.) or is this possible? (PS:
the 'display other resolutions' in 'control
panel'->'display'->'monitor' only gives me options for higher refresh
rates, not lower refresh rates.)

It is a matter for the hardware of the card, and its drivers - you can
see what is possible by clicking the 'List all modes' button there. But
the Radeon drivers do not appear to deal in anything below 60Hz until
you get down to 1280x1024 and lower, where there are some lower speed
interlaced modes (which an LCD will probably not like). It might be
worth instead seeing if it will run at 75 (the next possibility up at
that resolution) in the hope that the cause of jitter is beating with
the AC power frequency
