Low virtual/physical memory

Hi,

I'm contacting you to ask about what can be done about
low memory especially the virtual memory machine. I
obtained details about the memory on my computer and it
displayed that the memory was low. Is there a way I can
increase this? This has been casuing me problems in
running software and just recently I am very certain that
it had something to do with causing my computer to crash
when I was trying to install a Musicmatch jukebox
software on my computer. I've been trying to ignore it
but I can't anymore. I am not terribly clued up about
computers so if anyone can help me with this, I would be
entirely greatful.

go to advance
got to setting under performance
click advanced
click change
and increase the numbers about 999
