When I start windows up, it starts going extremely slow.
Everything That I try to do, such as opening programs,
takes way longer than It normally does. Even the mouse
is slower. After a while, a little bubble pops up in the
lower right hand corner and says "Low on Virtual
Memory." I have tried restarting and shuting it down,
but that does not work. Any advise?
You probably have way too many programs/services starting with Windows.
Some of those programs may be viruses and/or spyware, too. There's no
way to tell from the information your provided in your post. Here are
the first steps of Windows troubleshooting for you to do:
1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a version not earlier
than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2) remove spyware with
Spybot Search & Destroy (
www.security.kolla.de) and Ad-aware
(
www.lavasoftusa.com). Be sure to update these programs before running,
and it is a good idea to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete
temporary and Temporary Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services
programs from starting with Windows - see
www.blackviper.com for
services info and
www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs
info - 5) look in Event Viewer for clues.
After you know your computer is clean and have minimized the amount of
programs starting with Windows, if the problem persists please repost.
Be sure to include some information about your system (amount of RAM,
processor speed, etc.) and what you've already done to troubleshoot.
Cheers,
