Low virtual memory

Have Compaq 70 gb 512 mb 1.6 mhz desktop with message
that virtual memory is low. Have set performance to be
managed by computer. Response time is still very slow.
Don't have file sharing music downloads or anything like
that. Do have Norton AntiVirus. Also AntiSpam. But
latter is disabled right now.

Have defragged. Made little difference. Deleted cookies
and file histories. No improvement.

What next?

Set your V/M to around 770mb if you select a low setting

that increases to that amout you will get annoying MSG
that xp is increaesing your V/M
