Low disk space popup

Hi--
A message keeps popping up indicating I have low disk space. I keep
deleting certain files that are unnecessary and it states the problem is
resolved and low and behold the message pops up minutes later. Is this a
virus? Please advise....

Thanks!

you may get more help if you provide details on
what files you are deleting
whether you have preformed virus scanning with more than one up to date
virus scan engine
what are you doing during those minutes before the next low disk space
popup
Good luck

Thanks, gs. I actually just tried to perform a virus scan on symantec
antivirus and it's not working. Hmm, that's not a good sign .. and it looks
like it hasn't performed a scan since May.
Usually prior to the message popup, i'm either writing an email or searching
the web. No downloading or anything at the time.

How much free space is there?
Have you run DiskCleanup lately?
A virus may have contributed to the problem.
What does a current scan show?

For the last several months I have been using Norton Systemworks Antivirus
which has the strange side effect of logging record to the following file:
"D:\WINDOWS\system32\Logfiles\WMI\trace.txt" This file is located on my OS
disk which currently has 39.5gb when XP-SP-II starts up. The size of this
file grows day-in and day-out. Some days it gets no bigger than 700mg.
Other days it grows to almost 20gb in size.

I did a goggle on "Norton WMI Update" and discovered that when you use the
latest Antivirus/Internet Security software in the series 2002 - 2005 at
least, these packages contain this additional piece of software that is
installed when you install/reinstall these applications. From what I can
tell the Official reason that this feature is installed is to be able to
talk to the Windows SP2 Antivirus package and enable the windows package to
properly display the availability of Norton Antivirus being available.

I have had this same problem of writing to this file,
:"D:\WINDOWS\system32\Logfiles\WMI\trace.txt" thru an MS program named
BootVis. Among other options, when you select "Trace-FLAG ON" thru the
BootVis application, it too builds a very large set of records in the very
same file!? The only way to get rid of this option is to ensure that you
reset the "TRACE-FLAG OFF" before uninstalling. Just uninstalling BootVis
leaves something in the registry that says to keep on writing to this file.
There is a GotCha if you try to reinstall BootVis and turn the flag off. In
my case this disables my Norton Antivirus application when I reboot!?

I am currently waiting to see how long it takes Symantec finds a better way
to communicate with MS Software, but I am not holding my breath
