I'm looking for a laser printer; inexpensive to buy while economical
& reliable to run especially reliable. The Samsung ML 2010 caught my
eye.Comments?

I've had one Xerox, which turned out that it in fact has samsung 2010 unit
inside and it was quite OK and fast, too.
It's just...when toner runs out, normally replacement toner costs more than
whole printer with starter toner inside, so i'd say it's worthed to refill
it...

I didn't have much luck with the Samsung 1740. As a result, I would
never by a Samsung again.

When the 1740 was being phased out I compared the two. The 2010 has a
lighter monthly duty cycle (fewer recommended pages, not that I've ever
come close) and features replaceable rollers, which apparently can become
a problem over time. I bought the 1740 with a hefty rebate, and by now
the 2010 sells about the same way at the holidays, so start watching the
papers, esp. Staples, which used to offer good deals on the 1740. (I seem
to recall CompUSA did as well.)

All cheap Samsung printers come with a partially-full toner cartridge, for
which I compensate by using the toner saver setting except when i want a
better quality print.

If the 1740 is any example you'll get good text and light graphics because
the printer screens anything that's color, including text which means tht
a deep blue may be a little light (in black and white), on the page.

The 1740 has an occasional trick of sucking in more than one piece of
paper, but it's not all that often and the different roller set-up of the
2010 may have fixed that.

With the rebate the 1740 sold for as cheaply as $50, which is less than a
*full* toner cartridge. The 2010 ought to be a similar steal.

I've used my 1740 continuously for light duty printing for over a year.
What was your problem? The only one I've had is it sucks in an extra
sheet of paper once in a while, messing up a page or two. No other
jamming issues.

Yes, that was the problem; only I had *lots* (about 5%) of jamming
problems. 5% may not sounds like a lot, but it about 1 page out of 20.
Samsung tech support was no help.
