Lost Yahoo Search after format

I recently did a format and restore of my hard drive. I
have a pentium 4 computer using XP Windows operating
system. Before the format, I could type in the address
bar a general item of interest, such as lighthouses.
Yahoo would search the net and give me choices of sites
to visit. Now when I do that, I get a blank page with an
error icon at the bottom left where the "Done" is located
after searching. Can you help me get this feature back?

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Linda,

Give this a try:

Open IE and go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab. Scroll down to the
"Search from the Address bar" section and click in the radio button beside
your preference (i.e., "Display results and go to the most likely site, Just
display the results in the main window, Just go to the most likely site),
then click on Apply then OK. Click on the Search icon above the address bar,
and in the left sidebar click on Customize. In the Customize Search Settings
window, click on "Autosearch settings" button. Under "Choose a search
provider for address bar searches", use the drop-down arrow to select Yahoo
from the picklist, click on OK then OK again. Now try your search from the
address bar and see if it works.

Regards,

"Hah ha," I thought. You can't just type something in the "address" bar
and use it like a search engine!
So I typed "lighthouses" in the address bar waiting for "The page cannot
be displayed", and up comes Google with all kind of links to lighthouses!
Maybe you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!
I hope your answer got her straightened out... :-)

Hi Patti,

Well, I tried what you said and it didn't work. When I
typed in a word for searching, it searched my Favorites
folder on my C drive instead of searching the internet.

The setting I choose in Internet Options under Searching
was "Just go to the most likely site". This is also the
same setting I have for a second (almost identical)
computer in the house, which generates the type of search
information page I am looking for. HOWEVER, after
setting the option "Just go to the most likely site",
when I go into Search Icon, Customize, and Autosearch
settings, I CANNOT choose "Just go to the most like
site." The only two choices in the Autosearch section
are 1. Do not search from the address bar, and 2. Just
display results in the main window. (And actually this
option makes more sense to me, but it doesn't work
either) The #2 choice is one of the choices in Internet
Option, but NOT the one I picked before going
to "Autosearch". Before clicking on the autosearch
button, I have Yahoo chosen where it says: "Choose a
search provider for address bar searches." Then I went
to the Autosearch section, but couldn't find my
choice, "Just go to the most likely site."

Are you thinking that I may have had a bad reinstall of
Windows XP when I did my format and restore? If I click
on this webpage: http://search.yahoo.com/?fr=ad-fp-hl-
0606-startpg (which I now have saved to my Links in
Favorites) and type in lighthouses, for instance, I get
the exact look and result that I used to get by just
typing in lighthouse or any other words directly into the
address bar. I know it is just an extra click but it was
so convenient to search this way. And if this is a
problem, I am wondering if I may have other problems I
haven't come across yet.

Thanks for your help and have a wonderful day!

Linda S. :o)
