Lost XP Pro functions.

Hello;
I have XP pro installed on my computer. Some how I picked up a
apparent virus. When I finally got to the root of the dog it ha
destroyed files in my Help nad Support as well as my system restore.
have tried to find them but when I hit System restore the only thin
that happens is the window opens up with a larger white screen with
blue border on top that says system restore and that's it it just sit
there. WHen I try to do a search I click on search the little dog walk
out on the search screen and sits there and wags its tail and thats it.
I tried to do an re-install but the message comes back that it can'
re-install because of the service pack 2 is installed. My questions ar
as follows

1) If I delete service pack 2 update could I then do re-install. ?

2) If I bought another XP Pro with all the proper EULA and COD's of
ebay would I have to delete XP altogether or could I install over th
existing installation. ?

I have been scouring the internet XP forums for about a month now an
at my wits end.
If there is a simpler fix I would love to hear from someone.

Try a Repair setup.

If you run an XP "Upgrade"setup, from the original, or "Gold" version of the setup CD, and you have SP2 installed, it might go into
a setup loop, and you could lose your install. Uninstall SP2, BEFORE you Upgrade setup from CD (that lacks sp2 on it.)
