Lost work

So last night, I did about 3-4 hours worth of work on 2 separate excel files.
When I began falling asleep, I got up and went to bed. Did I save the work
first? Of course not. Did the computer shut off during the night and lose
the work? Of course. When I restarted, I did not get the file recovery
window. I went into the Microsoft Office Tools and did application recovery,
and it did not locate any recovered files. It usually works when Excel is
improperly shut down. I also checked in the folder where these recovery
files are saved, and there's nothing there that I can find.

Is there any other way to recover this work?
