Lost Windows Splash Screen

I'm a Tech for a small Consulting group and came accross a small problem I am unable to resolve. One one of our clients' system, the splash screen no longer displays during the boot up process. I tried using safe mode, but that didn't fix anything. This brought to light an additional problem, I figured I could use "System Recovery" and turn back the system to a time when the computer displayed the splash screen.... clicking on "System Recovery" does nothing, the hourglass flashes for a brief second but it never loads. Other than these two "Glitches" the system works perfectly. Any idea? I'm a bit of a nik picker when it comes to the systems I monitor and this has me stumped.

Might the /SOS parameter been added to the line in boot.ini to load
their OS? See http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/info/bootini.shtml for
some boot.ini options.
