Lost Win98 emails when upgrade to XP

N

Noel Burger

Hi,

I've just upgraded from Win98 (Ver 1) to XP and all my accumulated emails
have disappeared. Bizarrely a few emails that were once received under Win98
(ver 2 ) and lost when I previously reverted to version 1 have now
reappeared.

It appears that XP stores emails in a different place from Win98 (ver 1) but
perhaps the same place as version 2.

I think the lost emails are still there in C:\Documents and
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express (and \mail) but may have
a different extension.

How can I recover these? Perhaps I can simply rename them but don't feel
confident enough to risk it.

Help......

Thanks
Noel.

Hi Joel.

Windows 98 has a different location for saving the files.

The files can be fount at :
c:\windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express

instead of

c:\Documents and Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Be alert, the folder "application data" can be hidden !!

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002 & 2003 from the
Office family for Windows PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting
in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.mail.mac for the Macintosh version of OE

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:
