I have lost the Windows XP Home installation CD-ROM. Does anyone know how I
can go about getting another one legally? Its in a basement in the US while
I'm here in London.

If anything, I cant even ask a question of the official people here without
the Product Identification number. Its suggested how to find it assuming
that the computer starts. Since mine just reboots over and over, I cannot
get in to find out that number. The numbers on the back of the laptop dont
work. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

If you have a valid XP Product ID sticker affixed to your computer, then call
Microsoft and ask what they can do to assist by way of replacement media. It
may not be useful to you if your PC is not booting, but will be valuable when
reinstalling or repair existing installation.

If the PC is continually rebooting, make a note of any error messages and
place another request for guidance on this forum.

You may have virus or other infections which will need to be removed before
you attempt any repair or recovery of the exisitng system.

Once your system is up and running, you can use magicjellybean keyfinder to
identify the product key used for your existing installation. Do a Google to
find it on the web - a free product and very helpful.

BAR,

MS can - and will - do precisely nothing, They will *NOT* assist with an OEM
installation. Replacement media - like all support - is the responsibility
of the OEM, and the OEM alone.

If it was a retail license and you have proof of purchase:

If it was an OEM license, you should contact the computer's
manufacturer.

Your present Product Key will work with any CD of the same type - Home,
Upgrade or Full as appropriate. So borrow one. You can find the
Product key needed by getting the free Everest Home edition from
http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1
which is an excellent general System Info tool, and its Operating System
- Operating System page will tell you the one used

Note that if the machine came with XP installed, this will probably give
a key used in producing an original image, then cloned to all machines
they make. So it is not the one for a reinstall. But then the key will
be on a label on the case of the machine
