lost use of cd writer

had problems with virus and dopey here did reformat and
reinstall windows xp what came with laptop
dvd works cd player works
but no cd writer
and cannot backup
so if anyone can help it will be most appreciated

Kevs-

Have you checked out the drive in Device Manager? That could tell you
whether the drive is known to XP as a writer rather than just a reader.
Right click My Computer, click Manage, and then Device Manager, then
DVD-CDRom Drives. If it has a problem you could try removing and
reinstalling the driver. Also, most CD writers come with their own software
even though XP probably has a less capable driver for it as well.

the software is just win xp

i think as i look lots of people are hving same trouble
