Lost USB functions and mouse with install of Service pack 1

OK My friend losing his USB funcitons when I install the
service pack 1. Basically the USB mouse is seen prior to
full load of XP Pro afterrestart but once it is fully
loaded it does not work any longer.

I know that Service Pack 1 has issues but I also am
pretty sure that this can eb fixed but cannot remember
how.

If anyone can refresh my tired memory on this I would
appreciate it a bunch.

Remove ALL USB devices, hubs and ports from Device Manager and reboot.
Windows XP, with SP1, should reconfigure the ports.
