Lost URL name for local web

I just recently upgraded from Windows 98SE on which I was using FP2000 with
FPE and had a local personal server running called http://myserver that
accessed the web folder C:\WEBSHARE. I'm now using XP Pro SP2 and FP2003.
My Web Folders favorite for http://myserver no longer works. Can't see it
using IE either. I can open FP2003 and then open the folder C:\WEBSHARE and
it opens as a web site I can edit. I tried to go into Site Properties and
rename it "myserver" but it says I can't rename the site because it has sub
websites.

I'd like to continue using the URL name "http://myserver" to publish to/from
my internet site, but I can't figure out how to associate this name to my
hard drive web folder. Any ideas?

Windows XP Pro uses IIS as the server. Did you install IIS and the FP
server extensions: If so, you must have IIS, as well as World Wide Web
Publishing services running, and open your web as http://localhost or
http://mycomputername

Jon and Tom,

Neither http://localhost nor http://<mycomputername> worked. However, I
only installed FP2003 from the CD and unless it automatically installed IIS
and FPE, I didn't manually install these. How can I see if they are in fact
installed or not? Sounds like that may be my problem. Should I go search MS
KB for how to install IIS and FPE onto XP or do you know a quick way of doing
it?

Thank you for your help.

IIS and the FPSE are not installed automatically. You must install them
manually. They are part of the O/S, not the FP install. Go to Add/Remove
programs, Add/Remove Windows Components and go from there.

Install IIS from your Windows XP Professional disk. It's only installed if
you install it I think, not by default.

IIS is accessible from Control Panel - "Administrative Tools" > "Internet
Information Services". If these are not on your Control Panel in Windows,
one would assume IIS is not installed.

You can install it through Add/Remove Programs.

The physical folder is c:\inetpub\wwwroot that http://localhost points to.
