lost text in a Word document

Twice recently we have opened Word documents that had been previously saved
and they open as a blank document. We were not automatically saving backups
at the time. Is there anyway to retrieve or find the missing text? One
document was pages and pages of written text that just disappeared and my
young daughter is distraught that it is gone.

Don't know if this will help but if you can remember a specific phrase or
unique string of words why not do a search for them by clicking on the Start
key / Search / All files and folders / enter the string of words / Search. If
it has saved somewhere you are unaware of this should pin-point it's

Thanks. I had tried searching, and tried again as you described, but
nothing. Is there a service to which one can send files for restoration
attempts?
