When I try to do a system restore an error message comes up that says "rstrui.exe-the procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore/could not be located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dll." I have tried everything I could do with help and support and window support. Nothing works. Please help. Thank You, Barb

1. Put the in the Windows XP CD
2. Click Start , Run
3. Type the following then OK

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf

You can also open Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Windows\Inf folder and right-click sr.inf (Then
Install)

Hi,
The command-line parameter is case sensitive: Try this:

1. Insert the Windows XP CD
2. Click [Start] [Run]
3. Type the following command and press Enter
"rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\Inf\sr.inf"
[Case Sensitive]

System Restore core files should be reinstalled.

Alternately, you may also open Windows Explorer, navigate to
"C:\Windows\Inf" folder and right-click sr.inf [choose Install] [sr.inf
shows up as sr in windows explorer ]

Ensure that Folder Options is set to Show Hidden files, and *not* Hide
Protected mode ones, then go to Windows\Inf\sr.inf right click on it and
take Install.

If it has got into trouble, it is probably sensible to clear it out and
let it start clean too. Control Panel - System - System Restore. Check
'Disable System Restore', and OK, reboot. Now delete everything in the
System Volume Information folder on each drive

Start SR up again, and I suggest reviewing the settings for each drive.
There is not much point having it enabled on data drives, and on ones
with System or Programs I would reduce the space allotted if more than
say 1GB - I use 500MB, the minimum is 200 which will only handle maybe a
week of points. But the default of 12% of a drive seems too much for
its own good on modern large drives
