Lost space on C drive

R

r

I'm sure I should know the answer to this, but I can't work it out!

The o/s partition on the C drive shows 8.93gb.
The used space in "properties" shows 6.26gb
The free space shows 2.66gb

So, that all seems OK:

but, when I add up the (few) folders on the C drive they come to less than
3gb, of which Windows is 1.73gb & program files is 336mb, Documents &
settings 292mb.

So, I seem to have lost about 3gb somewhere! Am I overlooking something
obvious?

TIA

In Folder Options - View set to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide
Protected mode ones. Between most of the system and the System Volume
Information folder of restore points, 3 GB is easily accounted for
through being hidden
