Lost sounds after security updates this week

Hi,

Has anyone else lost their Windows default sounds after this last round of
updates from MS? I can play CDs the sound schemes are there. The files will
play but when the event occurs, all I get is the default sound like when i
receive new mail. Also, upon startup & shutdown, I do not hear the Windows
default sounds. Any suggestions? I would really hate to have to reinstall
Windows. Thanks in advance!

No problems on any of the Windows machines here, but try "Where did my

Yes I have but I don't know when for sure. All the sounds seem to work accept
the sounds that may be generated with some programs, Mostly the desk top
schemes, the clicks the open & close sounds. I have changed them and they do
test alright at the (Sounds and Audio Devices Properties) located in the
control panel.
What do I need to do to get the Schemes sounds to work?
Can you help?
