Lost Sound

Hi, I'm running XP Professional. All of a sudden my sound has almost
disappeared. It is playing but very very softly. I have checked all my
volume controls - all are set to full volume, I have checked the Sounds
through Control Panel and it all seems fine. I've checked all the sound
cables and plugs etc. with no success. Any suggestions? Thanks. Susie
