hi
i have my soundcard drivers install properly............... no conflicts
in sound video controllers................but in sound and audio devices all
is greyed out can someone give an assistance

thank ou

Does the PC have a add-in peripheral type of Sound or is it using
a audio device resident on the motherboard ? Most BIOS setups
have a option to enable/disable the on-board/built-in audio.
Also a good number of Sound Card setups include a control type
of applet that appears in Control Panel. You may need to go through
Add/Remove programs in Control Panel and uninstall any Sound
card support software and then re-try your latest driver package.

yes it does a onboard/built-in audio i turn that of and using crative audigy
soundcard
its in my sound and audio devices i have the problem its all greyed out cant
play windows sounds no chimes nothing

OK - Your card may have gone to "Phantom" status in Device Manager.
You'll need to add a System level environment variable to be able to see
if that's the case. DevMgr_Show_NonPresent_Devices w/ a value of 1.
Then open Device Manager, Click View & tic/check "Show Hidden
Devices". Expand your Sound category and look for any instances of the
Audigy that are grayed out or diminished in color. If any appear, Right
Click and then from the context menu choose "Uninstall". Close all open
apps and then reboot - XP should re-enumerate the Audigy at next boot.

I'm having the same problem and have trouble following your instructions.
What do you do with the device manager?

So, I did everything you said and there were about 15 grayed out icons. I
deleted them all and rebooted the computer but it's still not working. Now, I
have 7 devices listed under sound including audio codecs, legacy audio
drivers, legacy video capture devices, media control devices, soundMAX
intergrated digital audio, unimodem half-duplex audio device, and video
codecs. I really do not know what to do and I have to get the volume running
again since I have to make a video thing on the com. Help, PLEASE!
