Lost Screensavers

Joe

I am using XP Pro SP2.

Recently I was uninstalling some third party screensavers on my computer and
I must have inadvertently clicked where I shouldn't have and the result is
that now my screensaver does not work

If I go onto the desktop/properties/screensavers they are listed there but
they do not activate. They are also listed in C:\Windows\system32 and
C:\Windows\system32\dllcache.

Any thoughts please?

Thank you for your reply, I have checked everything that has been suggested
and downloaded the fixes from Kelly's Korner but still no joy.

My system if fully updated.

Does the HID services in Services.msc have any bearing on this and should
that be set to Automatic, Manual or Disabled please.

'Enables generic input access to Human Interface Devices (HID), which
activates and maintains the use of predefined hot buttons on keyboards,
remote controls, and other multimedia devices. If this service is
stopped, hot buttons controlled by this service will no longer function.
If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it
will fail to start.'

HID Input Service is set to disabled by default.

It has nothing to do with screensavers.

By the by have you tried System restore?

There is also a direct registry edit:-

'ScreenSaver Enable'

I finished up opting for the system restore when I couldn't get anything
else to work and that resolved it for me. I would have like to have known
why though.

Your help was appreciated.
