lost product key for Word 2000

Guest

I have been using my Gateway for many years. I need to resinstall Word but
have long since lost the key for my legal copy of Word 2000. I have the
installation CD, but without the key I can not install it.

Is there anything that I can do to reinstall my software?

Will those that lose their product keys become subject to prosecution by
software police?

Is there any hope for me at all?

If Word is already on your PC, Belarc Advisor linked from the favourites
page of my web site should reveal it.
Unless you are reformatting, re-installing Word rarely achieves anything
useful as its problems are usually external.

If you have the CD there should be a code with it that you can give microsoft
and they will give you your key but if you dont have it on the cd and you
dont have the case they would not be able to help you. If you have tried all
that is listed from the others cand come to no result you may want to check
your registory, if that is no use i would sugest looking for your case for
the code or if the key is on your case just find that.

The "code" on the CD *is* the key.

I doubt it. On all the CD's that I have, it is the Part Number, not the
Product Key.

Hope this helps.

Depends. Sometimes the key code is on the CD case or COA, sometimes on the
CD itself.

Hi Josh:

When posting answers in here, it's not a bad idea to try the operation
yourself on your own computer first, then write down the steps that worked,
so the other user can understand you.

If you had done that in this case, when you got to the bit about "you may
want to check your registry" you would have discovered that the key he wants
is encrypted: neither of you would have been able to read it.

Cheers
