I am using access 2000. I can get into access, but i cannot access my files
as they are password protected and i have lost the password. The user comes
up as "admin " by default. if someone could help me i would be very grateful.
thanks

There are password crackers avaailable for a nominal price on ithe internet.
Try googling for them.

is that the only way ? i had a similar problem with a previous version of
access and microsoft support provided info to get around that.

I'm sure that there are lots of ways, but it's the only one I know.

Perhaps they are not password protected; it just appears that way?

Did you ever apply security to these databases? If not, then you are likely
joined by default to a workgroup file, that has been set to ask for a
username password.

Use Start, Search and find all *.mdw files on your computer (be sure to
search system and hidden folders).

Use Start, Run, wrkgadm.exe. This will show you which mdw you are currently
joined to by default. Try joining one of the other mdw files you found
above.

Try opening the database.

Join each mdw until you find the one that doesn't prompt for a
username/password.

If you find only one mdw, or they all prompt, then try copying system.mdw
from another computer and put it in
C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Access
