My nephew gave me his computer. It has windows XP home
edition. He does not remember the password to log on and
lost the disks. It is a newer system so I would like to
use it. How can I get in or log on ?

Ed;
The password is Case Sensitive.
Check Caps Lock and try various of Capital combinations.

Or
Log in to any account that has Administrator access.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel.
Select the user and change the password.
If you are using Windows XP Pro and have encrypted data, you may
permanently lose access to the encrypted data.

Here is another option:

Another option is to install Windows XP on another partition and take
Ownership of your data.
You could also perform another installation on the same partition,
although this is not a permanent fix and it is recommended to perform
a Clean Installation after retrieving your data.

how do I boot from CD??
-----Original Message-----
Contact Microsoft directly and ask for a new CD. I have
never done this before, but I know that it is your only
option. You may have to pay for this, I['m not sure. If
you have someone else's CD, you may be able to use it to
do an installation Repair. To do this, you boot from the
CD, follow instructions for installation, then you will
come to a screen that asks you if you want to repair the
existing installation. Choose to do so, then see if the
end result is that you have access to the system. You
will have to have the CD Key accompanying the CD to do
this.
