Lost OEM XP home CD

Sure Bill, try and find a XP Home CD without any service packs integrated,
then install using the key on the side of the pc, you may need to ring
Microsoft to activate it, as after 3 months they wipe all information of
activation.

I don't think your 2001 Gateway system is upto Windows Vista standards.
 
If you happen to use a DELL OEM CD it may not ask for the product key on
installation, but when you do finally install windows and reboot it will ask
to activate, activation will fail because of hard coded key, so select
change my key, use the one on the side of the case and phone Microsoft to
activate.

But please use a CD without any service packs intergrated or Microsft will
not activate you it
