I opened a .docx file from my hotmail email account, then hit the save
button. I closed the file before I could save it to my regular folder. Where
does the file go if you saved it from the email?

I did a search for the file name and it came up empty. Is it in a temporary
internet file some where?

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP!

If you haven't edited the paper, you should be able to open it from your
Hotmail account again and save it properly.

If you didn't delete the email, you can just download the file again.
But save it to your hard drive!

I did edit it, that's the problem. I only opened the email to use the same
heading but I redid the whole assignment, clicked save and then closed. Isn't
there a temporary internet file some where that it could have saved to?

What you could try doing is: go to your hotmail account and open the
file again. This time, instead of hitting "Save...", use "Save As...".
Take note of the current folder location to save the file to (you
don't actually have to save the file). This will be some temporary
directory. Then check the files in that directory. Depending on how
your internet cache gets cleaned, there is a chance the other file
will still be in that directory.
