Lost my icons

It's very bizarre, almost all the microsoft xp icons have disappeared
(almost all in the control panel, run, search, tasks, etc. just to name
a few) and now it shows the default file icons instead, which means
that although the items are functional they are very ugly. Anyone know
how to fix this?

Download TweakUi and use the "Rebuild Icons" option.
