I cannot find the volume control icon (it is not on the task bar). My
computer states that there is no Volume Control program and that it needs to
be installed.

When I go to Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/ all I get is Windows Media
PLayer.

Sound works fine. Windows Media player works fine. My default sound card is
Audigy Soundblaster; I also have Nero installed.

Please advise. Thank you

Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel. Open Sounds and Audio Devices. On
the Volume tab, check the box "Place volume icon in the taskbar."

Ken, thank you for trying, but I already have done that many times. I keep
getting the message: “Windows cannot display the Volume Control on the
taskbar because the Volume Control program has not been installed [But it was
at one time]. To install it, use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.â€
However, I cannot find the program anywhere on my hard drive or my XP Pro
installation disc. Please advise.

OK, but I wish you had said that in the first place.

I keep getting the message: "Windows cannot display the Volume
Control on the taskbar because the Volume Control program has not
been installed [But it was at one time]. To install it, use
Add/Remove programs in Control Panel." However, I cannot find the
program anywhere on my hard drive or my XP Pro installation disc.
Please advise.

In that case, read here:

Sorry I was lazy about writing more and thanks again for the help. My first
obstacle in following the instructions from MS Support you suggested is that
when I open RUN and type in cmd and click OK, I get C:\documents and
settings\administrator>. Then when I type in D: and press Enter, the next
line is D:\>.

Now if I click on Enter again to get a new line, I get D:\> again, so I
can’t type cd 1386 under it. If I type cd 1386 after D:\>, I get a message
that the "System cannot find the path specified."

Please advise further.

OK, and you're welcome.

That's fine so far.

Now if I click on Enter again to get a new line, I get D:\> again,

Pressing Enter again wasn't necessary, but it didn't hurt.

so
I can't type cd 1386 under it. If I type cd 1386 after D:\>,

That's where you should type it, but you typed the wrong thing. It's cd
i386, not 1386. It begins with the letter "i," not the number "1."

Miracle of miracles, IT WORKED! (Not that I ever doubted). Seems so easy
when you know how.

Many Thanx.
