Lost mail from Outlook Express

A friend who runs XP SP2 has lost all mail from his Outlook Express Inbox. He
thinks it may have happened when I advised that he make a copy of his address
book (File> Export>adresses and that was OK). He doesn't have any other mail
program but I wonder whether he tried File> Export>messages. If he did,
where would the messages have gone to and what would their suffix be so that
he can search for them? Any other ideas? He's tried looking in the deleted
files and recycle bin.
Thanks

Hi - unfortunately, you're in the wrong newsgroup. This is a group to
support Microsoft Outlook (part of Microsoft Office). Outlook Express is a
part of Internet Explorer and is an entirely different program, despite its
similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group. Try
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

If this group isn't carried on the news server that's carrying this group,
try using news.microsoft.com as your NNTP server.

A good website for information on OE is http://www.insideoe.com/

Outlook Express 6 messages have the extension .dbx so a search should locate
them if they aren't in the store folder. Look in the latter first -- check
its location by looking at Tools, Options, Maintenance, Store Folder...
Outlook might be different but you said OE.
